What March Madness Taught Me About Community and Caregiving

I love March Madness. Not just because of the buzzer beaters and Cinderella stories (although I do live for a good underdog upset), but because for a few weeks every spring, people from all walks of life come together to cheer for something.

It doesn’t matter if you know every player’s stats or you picked your bracket based on jersey colors everyone gets to belong. Everyone becomes part of the team. And somehow, whether you’re sitting on a couch or in the nosebleeds, you’re in it together.

And lately, I’ve been thinking… what if healthcare felt like that?

What if emergency response teams, caregivers, hospital staff, and even strangers at the scene weren’t just operating in silos—but instead, rallying together like teammates, fully informed and focused on the same goal?

Because here’s what I know: in caregiving, it often feels like the opposite of a packed stadium.
It feels like you’re alone in the stands with a clipboard, a med list, and a kid who depends on you to get it right….every single time.

And that’s why I built Risen Devices.
Not because I had spare time (spoiler: I didn’t), but because I couldn’t shake the feeling that there had to be a better way to do this.

There had to be a way to close the gap between emergencies and information.
Between caregivers and responders.
Between isolation and real-time support.

We’ve recently started partnering with sports teams and that’s no accident. Because sports aren’t just about the scoreboard. They’re about community. They’re about showing up for people. They’re about heart.

And honestly? That’s everything I want Risen Devices to be.

So if you’re a parent, a caregiver, a medical professional, or just someone who’s ever had to advocate for someone else in a crisis, I see you. You’re already doing the work. We’re just here to make it easier, faster, and a whole lot more human.

Because no one should have to fumble through paperwork when seconds count.
And no one should have to feel alone in the process.

Here’s to building something better. Together. Even if our brackets are totally busted by now 😉
